Preparing and Scheduling
When deciding on how to take the CPCA, in-person or online, consider the following:
In-person at a PearsonVue Center:
- PearsonVue centers are generally open during business hours Monday through Saturday. Schedule your appointment as far in advance as possible to get the best selection of times and locations.
- You will have to make time to travel to your selected location on assessment day.
- A proctor will assist you with checking in and will observe you throughout the assessment session. You will use the centers computer equipment and internet connections.
- The entire assessment session will be recorded.
- More Information for taking the CPCA in-person can be found here.
Online through PearsonOnVue:
- You will need a personal computer with a webcam for successful delivery of the assessment.
- Make sure you have a reliable, fast internet connection to download your assessment and support a webcam stream.
- You will need a quiet, disruption-free, well-lit space and a desk that is clear.
- The entire assessment session will be recorded.
- More Information for taking the CPCA online can be found here.

Preparing and Practicing for the CPC Assessment
The CPC Assessment will assess knowledge in the four core domains of nurse anesthesia practice. The domains and the corresponding weighted percentages on the CPC Assessment are as follows:
- Airway Management (34%)
- Applied Clinical Pharmacology (24%)
- Physiology and Pathophysiology (24%)
- Anesthesia Equipment, Technology, and Safety (18%)
The NBCRNA publishes a CPC Assessment content outline and a list of references used to develop the CPC Assessment items.
Online Practice Assessments to Help You Prepare
Gain confidence and readiness as you prepare for the Continued Professional Certification Assessment (CPCA). CPCA Practice I and II are interactive, online practice assessments including 40 questions each, designed to help you:
- Assess your knowledge of the four core domains* of anesthesia practice and identify any weaknesses that may require additional study.
- Familiarize yourself with question formats that appear on the CPCA including multiple-choice and multi-select questions. There are no hotspot or short answer questions.
- Earn credit while studying and prepping! You can earn a total of four Class A credits when you achieve an 80% passing score in your first three attempts for completing the CPCA Practice I and II (two Class A credits for each). If you do not receive a passing score, you can still self-report the CPCA Practice activity for 1 Class B credit for every 60 minutes you were engaged in the assessment. You have 365 days to access CPCA Practice after purchase. You do not need to complete the practice assessment in one sitting.
- After each version (I or II), you will have access to all 80 questions from each version, along with rationales about the correct answers to help you prepare for the CPCA. So, after taking both CPCA Practice I and II, you will eventually have access to 160 practice questions!
